Yoga
Etiquette
Yoga
Etiquette, to
Enhance Everyones
Experience
To
enhance the value of your yoga classes, please follow
these common-sense guidelines. Yoga class doesn't begin
when you start the class. It starts when you walk in
the front door. Live consciously.
1)
Please do your best to arrive on time. The pranayama (breath)
work at the beginning of class is crucial in helping us
to clear our minds of the daily clutter and to prepare
mentally for class. The warm-up series is extremely important.
Practicing our asanas (Yoga Poses) when muscles are warmed
up increases flexibility and greatly lowers the risk of
injury.
2)
If you must arrive after class has begun, (door is closed)
please wait for opening meditation to conclude, (when
you hear movement) before entering and then do so as
quietly as possible.
3)
Class will be closed to latecomers 5 minutes after class
has begun. The warm-up is extremely important in order
to practice safely and without injury.
4) Please turn cell phones OFF before you enter the
room! There is no acceptable circumstance for a ringing
cell phone during asana (Yoga) practice. A ringing cell
phone can be very distracting to other participants.
5) If you must leave class before the class is over,
please take an early Savasana pose (relaxation), which
will alert the instructor of your planned early exit.
6)
Please DO NOT leave during the group's Savasana. This
is VERY disruptive to the process of creating Mind/Body
memory of our new found alignment.
7)
Please remove your shoes before entering the room. It's
part cleanliness and part respect for the space and
tradition. You may place your shoes underneath bench
right outside the Yoga room or in cubicles on walls
inside the Yoga room, Please remove them before entering
the room.
8)
Please place your valuables and other belongings in
one of the cubicles inside the Yoga room. This frees
up floor space but also helps to avoid any unfortunate
accidents involving candles and/or tripping.
9)
If you practice yoga-no matter how sporadic-you should
have your own yoga mat. The loaner mats are intended
for students new to yoga and guests who are visiting
from out of town.
10)
Please wipe down borrowed mats after each use with sanitary
wipes provided. This helps to cut down on the spread
of germs and is respectful to the next person who uses
that mat.
We
are all "practicing" yoga together. We do
not DO yoga.
We
are all Human Beings, Not Humans Doing
Thank you so much for understanding and adhering
to these guidelines.
Everyone appreciates your cooperation.
